The University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Bangalore (UAHS), situated in the state of Karnataka, India, is a pioneering institution. It holds the distinction of being the first integrated university in the state to encompass both agricultural and horticultural sciences. UAHS was established under Karnataka Act no. 38 of 2012, as specified in notification no. Sam. Vya. Sha. ilakhe, 19 Shasana 2012, dated 21-09-2012, published in the Special Gazette of Karnataka, part IV – A, No. 656, on 21-09-2012.

Dr. P.M. Salimath served as the Special Officer, and on 1st April 2013, UAHS gained independent status. In 2014, Dr. C. Vasudevappa, Former Dean of Post Graduation Studies at UAS, Bengaluru, was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor.

The University was established by separating seven districts from the jurisdictional area of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. It also incorporated all the institutes previously under the University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot. The jurisdictional area of UAHS, Shimoga includes Shimoga district, Chikkamagaluru district, Udupi district, Dakshina Kannada district, Kodagu district, Davanagere district, and Chitradurga district.

Course, Fees and Eligibility

Admissions

The University of Agriculture and Horticulture Sciences offers a wide range of programs, including B.Sc. courses in Agriculture, Horticulture, and Forestry, M.Sc. programs in various specializations, Ph.D. programs in Agriculture, and Diploma programs in Agriculture. Moreover, the university facilitates lateral entry admission for diploma holders into its B.Sc. degree programs.

For those aspiring to join any undergraduate degree course at one of the affiliated colleges of the university, it is mandatory to appear for the CET conducted by KEA.

Admissions to postgraduate and Ph.D. courses are conducted through a common entrance test organized by the Farm Universities of Karnataka.

Diploma course admissions are based on the merit of SSLC marks.

Lateral Entry admissions for diploma holders are granted based on performance in an entrance test.

Candidates applying under the agriculture quota need to submit a separate application for the practical test.
