Established in 1987, The Tamil Nadu Dr. M G R Medical University is a government-run educational institution dedicated to offering medical education and conducting research at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. levels. It also provides a range of super-specialist courses.

M.B.B.S. students who have successfully completed the CRBI exam and obtained membership with the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Tamil Nadu State Medical Council can work as General Practitioners (GPs). P.G. students who have completed their respective programs and achieved the necessary degrees from both councils have the opportunity to establish their own private practice, work in hospitals, or become consultants. They may also be eligible for the position of Assistant Professor. The availability of such positions is communicated to the respective College Development Committees (CDCs) to ensure that junior doctors are guided accordingly.
Candidates who possess a B.Sc. degree and a P.G. Diploma following a skilled training program can be accepted into the institution based on the institution’s requirements.
