In 2007, Sri Muthukumaran Medical College Hospital was established with 300 beds as a prerequisite for the establishment of a Medical College. Subsequently, in 2009, the Sri Muthukumaran Medical College Hospital & Research Institute was established in Chikkarayapuram, Near Mangadu, Chennai – 69. This institution is a non-profit, self-financing Medical College categorized as a linguistic minority institution. It is affiliated with The TN Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai. The Medical College has received approval from the Government of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi, to admit 150 students starting from the academic year 2010-11.

Admissions
Muthukumaran Medical College offers the MBBS course with an annual intake of approximately 150 students.
To be eligible for the MBBS program, candidates must have passed the HSC examination conducted by the Tamil Nadu State Board or an equivalent board in a single attempt with the minimum required marks.
In the HSC examination, candidates with Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, and Botany or Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with another subject are eligible to apply for admission.
Admission to the MBBS course is based on the NEET UG entrance examination.
Candidates can choose to apply for admission through either online or offline mode of application.
Applicants must be at least 17 years of age as of December 31 of the year of admission.
