Southern Academy of Maritime Studies, a prestigious institution in higher education, has been rooted in Chennai, Tamil Nadu since 1988. These programs are available in both full-time and part-time modes to cater to the diverse needs of students. Southern Academy of Maritime Studies provides 3 undergraduate courses designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge in their chosen fields. These courses span across certificate, B.E. / B.Tech, B.Sc., and UG Diploma programs, specializing in engineering and science disciplines. With the guidance of experienced faculty, students at the academy have the opportunity to gain expertise and proficiency in the fields of marine engineering and nautical science. The courses offered by the institute are recognized and approved by governing bodies such as AICTE. The institute has an intake capacity of 80 candidates for these courses. Admissions
To be eligible for admission, all applicants are required to have successfully completed the [10+2] examination conducted by the central board of secondary education or its state equivalents. They must have obtained a minimum aggregate of 50% marks overall, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects from a recognized university or institution.
Additionally, candidates should have secured a minimum of 50% marks in English.
In terms of medical fitness, candidates must meet the standard norms and be physically fit for sea service. Their eyesight should be up to 6/12 in both eyes or 6/9 in the better eye, with a 6/18 eyesight in the other eye. Color blindness is not permitted.
