Vivekananda College, founded in 1946, had its inauguration conducted by Swami Kailashanandaji Maharaj, the then President of the Rama Krishna Mutt. The official inauguration took place in July 1st, 1946, under the patronage of Dr. Radha Krishnan, the President at that time, with a vision to promote quality education.
Initially, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College began its journey with a modest enrollment of 33 students and a faculty count of 290 members. The primary objective of the college was to foster character and personal development among students. It was established with the purpose of imparting both secular and spiritual knowledge to the student community.
The college offers both day and evening programs. The day college provides undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses in the fields of Arts, Science, and Commerce. On the other hand, the evening college offers UG and PG programs in Commerce and Science disciplines.
Admissions
For the admission process in 2023, Vivekananda College Chennai exclusively admits eligible male students. The college follows the reservation policy prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu, and the eligibility criteria are determined by the University of Madras. Merit is the primary factor considered for admissions, while entrance exams are conducted by the college’s selection committee for PhD and M.Phil programs. Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College has established a set of rules and regulations that govern the admission and withdrawal procedures, ensuring a structured and orderly process for all prospective students.
