Founded in 2001 under the aegis of Sir. M. Visvesvaraya Education Trust (R), Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology Bangalore is affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, and holds accreditation from the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. The institute’s strategically located campus lies in the heart of Bangalore city, approximately 7 km away from the Bangalore airport and 15 km from the railway station. The campus features a well-constructed administrative building and various amenities for students, including common areas for both boys and girls, a waiting area, a cooperative store, and well-equipped laboratories, among others. RGIT offers a diverse range of 15 courses, including engineering programs, MBA, and PhD in engineering. Aspiring candidates seeking admission to RGIT Bangalore courses must qualify in the competitive entrance exam conducted by the respective authorities, approved by the college. Presently, there are two entrance tests for admission: the COMEDK entrance test, applicable to all students, and the KEA (CET Cell) entrance test, exclusive to Karnataka students. A merit list will be released, and selected candidates will undergo counseling for their final admission.
For those seeking admission under the management and NRI categories, RGIT offers a free application form. Admission in these categories is based on a merit list determined by the cumulative marks obtained in the qualifying examination’s optional subjects. Once the selected students have paid the RGIT fees, no refund will be provided.
Course, Fees and Eligibility
Admissions
At RGIT, there are various courses available for students at both the undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) levels. At the UG level, the institute offers the B.E. degree, while at the PG level, there are M.Tech and MBA programs, each with a duration of two years. Additionally, RGIT also provides a research-oriented Ph.D. program in four different disciplines.
To apply for any of these courses, candidates are required to complete the online application process. The minimum eligibility criteria for admission to the B.E. degree program is 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) subjects, with a minimum of 45% marks.
For admission to the M.Tech program, candidates should have completed their B.E./B.Tech degree, while those applying for the MBA program should hold a graduation degree in any discipline.
As for the Ph.D. program, candidates need to have a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline. Selection for the Ph.D. course is based on the VRAT (VTU Research Aptitude Test).
Admission to the B.E. courses is through the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) and COMED – K. For the M.Tech and MBA programs, the selection process involves the PGCET entrance test conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).

The highest salary package offered to RGIT students during campus placements reached 8 Lakhs per annum, while the average package ranged from 3 to 5 Lakhs per annum.
