The establishment of Rajalakshmi Engineering College Chennai in 1997 was led by the Rajalakshmi Educational Trust, whose members possess extensive experience in the fields of education and industry. The college is affiliated with Anna University and has made significant strides in engineering education, research, and development over the past 25 years.

At the undergraduate and graduate levels, Rajalakshmi Engineering College offers courses such as B.Tech, B.Tech (Lateral), M.Tech, and MBA. Admission to the B.Tech program at Rajalakshmi Engineering College requires candidates to meet the eligibility criteria based on their 10+2 marks. Subsequently, students need to register for TNEA counseling, which is administered by Anna University and seat allotment is conducted accordingly. For admission to the M.B.A and M.E/M.Tech programs at Rajalakshmi Engineering College, candidates are selected based on their performance in the TANCET exam. However, candidates with a valid GATE score for the M.E/M.Tech program are exempt from taking the TANCET exam. Shortlisted candidates are required to attend the TANCET M.B.A counseling and TANCA counseling for M.E/M.Tech programs.
