Established in 1980, Mangalore University holds the distinction of being one of the oldest public universities in the southern region. It has achieved an ‘A’ accreditation from NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) and is recognized by the AIU (Association of Indian Universities). With 25 postgraduate departments, the university offers a diverse range of 40 postgraduate programs.

Mangalore University extends its academic offerings beyond postgraduate courses to include undergraduate, doctoral, postgraduate diploma, and certificate programs. These programs span multiple disciplines such as Management, Commerce, Arts, Science, and Technology. The university collaborates with 119 affiliated colleges to deliver these programs. It’s important to note that the main campus primarily focuses on postgraduate, doctoral, diploma, and certificate courses.

The Mangalore University campus provides hostel facilities for both male and female students, ensuring a comfortable living environment. Additionally, students have access to central facilities, including a well-equipped library, computer lab, health center, gymnasium, sports ground, auditorium, transportation services, and modern communication facilities.

The university follows a reservation policy that grants eligibility and fee concessions to students from SC/ST/OBC/PwD/EWS categories. Admissions

Mangalore University offers admission opportunities for undergraduate, postgraduate, and postgraduate diploma courses. For M.C.A. and M.B.A. programs, the university considers Karnataka Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET) scores. However, for all other PG courses, excluding M.C.A. and M.B.A., admission is granted based on the candidates’ performance in the qualifying examination.

Placements

Mangalore University hosts placement drives annually, attracting participation from a wide range of companies in the public and private sectors. The university’s dedicated placement cell plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of these placement activities. The placement cell of Mangalore University assists students in securing suitable job opportunities that align with their qualifications and skills. Additionally, the university has a counseling cell that collaborates with the placement cell to provide career counseling sessions, guiding students in making informed decisions about their career paths.

In the academic year 2019-20, Mangalore University witnessed a significant number of placements among postgraduate students. Out of the total 1,485 eligible students from two-year postgraduate programs, 932 successfully secured placements, while 55 students opted to pursue higher studies. According to the placement data, the median salary offered to students enrolled in two-year postgraduate programs stood at Rs. 3,50,000 per annum. Moreover, placements were also secured by 24 students from one-year postgraduate courses and 16 students from three-year postgraduate programs during the 2019-20 placement drive at Mangalore University.
