Vidya Mitra

Established in 1955, Kasturba Medical College Mangalore (KMC Mangalore) is a renowned constituent college of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal (formerly Manipal University). It holds recognition from esteemed institutions such as the Medical Council of India (MCI), the General Medical Council of Great Britain, and the Malaysian Medical Council. KMC Mangalore has achieved notable recognition, being ranked 21st among the top medical colleges in India by NIRF in 2020.

With a total of 28 academic departments including Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry, KMC Mangalore offers comprehensive education in various medical disciplines. Initially, the college made use of the clinical facilities provided by Government Wenlock Hospital and Government Lady Goschen Hospital. However, in 1977, KMC Mangalore gained independent status as an individual unit. The official vision of KMC Mangalore, as stated on its website, is to become a center of excellence in medical education.

Admissions

KMC Mangalore provides admissions at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, offering a range of programs. The undergraduate programs include M.B.B.S., while the postgraduate programs encompass various specializations such as General Medicine, Pathology, Anesthesiology, Radiodiagnosis, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, and M.Sc., among others. To seek admission into the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) program, candidates are required to appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) followed by counseling. Additionally, NEET-qualified students aspiring for UG admissions at KMC Mangalore must complete and submit the Karnataka M.B.B.S. application form. Eligibility criteria mandate that candidates must secure a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from a recognized board.

For admission to the M.Sc. programs in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Physiology, the selection is based on a merit list prepared according to the marks obtained in the qualifying examination. Candidates need to participate in physical or online counseling and fulfill all the admission formalities to secure final PG admissions at KMC Mangalore. The postgraduate programs offered include M.D. and M.S. in specialties such as Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, Microbiology, Orthopedics, and Ophthalmology. It’s important to note that admissions to postgraduate diploma programs (M.D. and M.S.) are based on the NEET PG rank and score, followed by counseling conducted by either the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for deemed universities or the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) for state-level counseling.

Placements

KMC Mangalore facilitates placement opportunities for its final-year undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students. As part of their final year, MBBS students are obliged to complete a one-year rotational internship, gaining practical experience in various departments. During this internship, students are provided with internships that come with a monthly stipend of INR 20,000. According to the NIRF 2022 report, a total of 192 MBBS students and 122 MD/MS students were successfully placed. The highest median package offered to MBBS students was INR 8.4 LPA (Lakh Per Annum), while MD/MS students received a median package of INR 15.6 LPA.
