Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology (HIET) was founded in Chennai in 1966 to address the demand for informal technical education. It is administered by the Hindustan Engineering Training Centre (HETC) Educational Society, a registered Technical Education Society under the Societies Act, XXI of 1860. The institute holds approval from the Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India, for conducting the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course. Additionally, it is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education and the Government of Tamil Nadu for offering Diploma courses in disciplines such as Automobile, Computer, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical & Electronics, and Electronics & Communication Engineering.
The institution has provided training to numerous students across various engineering disciplines. It boasts well-equipped workshops and laboratories. HIET has gained significant recognition as a leading technical institution in both Asian and African continents. Several governments, including those of Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Singapore, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and numerous aviation organizations, have sponsored students to pursue courses at HIET. To date, HIET has successfully trained over 42,000 individuals as engineers and technicians. More than 5,000 of its graduates are currently employed by various airlines and aviation industries in India and abroad.
