Established in 1971 by the Guru Nanak Educational Society as a tribute to Sri Guru Nanak Devji, the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak College Chennai (GNC) has garnered a reputation as an esteemed institution. Affiliated with the University of Madras, GNC Chennai is a co-educational college known for its commitment to providing quality education. Accredited with an ‘A’ Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Guru Nanak College Chennai aims to empower students from underprivileged backgrounds through holistic and value-based education.

Nestled on a sprawling 20-acre campus, GNC Chennai boasts a green and serene environment. The college offers a diverse range of programs, including 23 undergraduate, 9 postgraduate, and 10 disciplines in the Ph.D. programs. Additionally, MPhil programs are available in Zoology and Economics. The college prides itself on its modern infrastructure, equipped with state-of-the-art classrooms and well-appointed laboratories catering to various departments. Two auditoriums, namely the ‘Guru Teg Bahadur Auditorium’ and the ‘Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Auditorium,’ serve as venues for various events. Students benefit from a central library, housing a vast collection of books and journals, along with five departmental libraries. The college also provides hostel facilities, sports facilities, and a cafeteria to cater to the needs of its students.

Course, Fees and Eligibility

Admissions

Guru Nanak College in Chennai offers admissions to a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, M.Phil, and Ph.D. programs. The admission process for these courses is primarily based on merit, with the exception of M.B.A. and M.C.A. programs. For UG and PG courses, except M.B.A. and M.C.A., students must participate in the college’s counseling process to secure admission in their desired courses. To be eligible for these programs, students need to obtain a rank or percentile in national or state-level entrance tests such as TANCET, CAT, MAT, or XAT. Based on their performance in these tests, students are required to attend a personal interview conducted by the college admission team at GNC Chennai.

For M.Phil and Ph.D. programs, students are advised to refer to the admission portal of the University of Madras and follow the specific admission process outlined for these courses.

To apply for UG and PG programs, students must fill out the application form. The deadline for submitting the application form for UG programs is within ten days after the announcement of the 10+2 examination results by the Government of Tamil Nadu. For PG programs, it is after the announcement of the UG program results by the University of Madras. Any application submitted after these deadlines will be considered as a late application. It is important to note that students need to apply separately for UG and PG admissions. The eligibility criteria and fee structure may vary across different courses and programs.

Placements

The placement cell at Guru Nanak College in Chennai is dedicated to providing career guidance and a wide range of job opportunities for the students. To prepare students for the placement process, the college’s placement cell organizes various training programs aimed at enhancing their skills and providing insights into the recruitment procedures of organizations. Collaborating with GNC Chennai alumni working in diverse sectors, the placement cell conducts workshops and seminars where alumni share their personal experiences with the GNC Chennai placement process and insights into the industry’s work culture. Additionally, guest lectures by renowned industry experts are organized to inform students about potential job opportunities, career options, and the valuable exposure they can gain.

Based on the NIRF 2021 data, regarding placements at Guru Nanak College Chennai for UG programs (3-year courses) and PG programs (2-year courses), out of 1860 UG students, 364 students were successfully placed. For PG programs, out of 211 PG students, 83 students secured placements in various organizations through Guru Nanak College Chennai. Furthermore, 498 UG program students and 19 PG program students opted for higher studies upon completing their courses at GNC Chennai. The median package for UG students was Rs. 2,11,200, while for PG students, it stood at Rs. 2,67,024.
