The Bharathiar University School of Distance Education (BU-SDE) was established in the academic year 1991-92 and is recognized by UGC-DEB. To overcome educational barriers and increase literacy rates, SDE has expanded its study centers, resulting in higher enrollment. BU-SDE holds NAAC accreditation, and it currently operates 44 study centers for distance education across various locations.

Admissions
BU SDE provides a diverse range of courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate, PG Diploma, Diploma, and Certificate levels. The undergraduate programs offered by the university include BSc, BA, B.Com, BBA, BCA, BSW, and B.Lib.Sc, covering 17, 6, 3, and 15 disciplines respectively. At the postgraduate level, BU SDE offers M.Sc in 13 specializations, MA in 7 disciplines, M.Com, MBA, Integrated MBA, Executive MBA, MCA, MSW, and M.Lib.Sc courses. Each of these postgraduate programs has a duration of 2 years.
In addition, there are PG Diploma programs available with 16 specializations, Diploma courses with 11 specializations, and Certificate programs with 8 specializations.
To apply for admission, candidates are required to submit the application form through offline mode only. The form can be downloaded from the university’s website or obtained in person or through post.
Admission to the undergraduate programs is based on the candidates’ merit in the qualifying examination. For MBA and MCA programs, admission is granted based on the candidates’ merit in the respective qualifying degrees. For PG-level courses, students are selected based on their merit in the qualifying examination and meeting the eligibility criteria. Admission to PG Diploma, Diploma, and Certificate courses is determined by the candidates’ percentage scored in the qualifying examination, following the university’s norms.
