Bengaluru City University (BCU), formerly known as Bengaluru Central University, is a state university located in Gandhi Nagar. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission and has a rich heritage dating back to the establishment of Bangalore University in 1964, spanning over 160 years. The university came into existence in 2017 through the Government of Karnataka’s initiative under an Act of the State Legislature and Gazette notification No. 34 of 15 of 2015, amending the KSU Act 2000.
BCU comprises five faculties that offer a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in disciplines such as Arts, Commerce, Science, Education, and Language. The university also provides courses in fields like IT, Media, Animation, Management, and Design. Additionally, BCU offers open electives across various faculties and emphasizes the importance of soft skills education. Moreover, BCU serves as the affiliating institution for 236 colleges located throughout the state.
Course, Fees and Eligibility
Admissions
Admission to UG courses at Bengaluru City University follows the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), which has been formulated by the UGC. The admission process at Bengaluru City University combines both merit-based and entrance-based criteria.
For the B.Tech program, admission is granted based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination, followed by a counseling process. Candidates who have qualified in the JEE Main are also eligible to apply.
To secure admission in the B.Ed program, applicants’ marks in the Pre-Teachers Entrance Test conducted by the university are taken into consideration.
The M.Tech program also follows a merit-based admission process, with preference given to candidates who have qualified in the GATE examination.
Admission to the M.Phil and Ph.D. programs involves an entrance test conducted by the university, followed by an interview.
The university conducts counseling sessions for both UG and PG courses after the admission test.
Applicants who have passed the CSIR NET/UGC NET/GATE or any other equivalent examination are also eligible to apply and are exempted from the university entrance test.
MBA applicants who have obtained a PGCET/CAT/MAT/JMET/ATMA or any other equivalent examination score are exempted from the university entrance test as well.
