Alagappa College of Technology, established in 1944, owes its inception to the generous donation of Vallal Dr. Alagappa Chettiar to Dr. A. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar, the Vice-Chancellor of Madras University. The institution is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, Government of India, New Delhi. It comprises various departments, including the Department of Applied Science and Technology, Department of Bio-Technology, Department of Chemical Engineering, Department of Ceramic Technology, Department of Textile Technology, and Department of Leather Technology. As a government engineering college, Alagappa College of Technology currently enrolls a total of 2304 students and boasts a faculty strength of 65 members. The institution offers four courses in the fields of Engineering and Architecture, Sciences, Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, and Pharmacy, namely B.Tech, M.Tech, M.S, and Ph.D.

Admissions
Alagappa College of Technology Chennai offers admissions to a range of programs including B.Tech, M.Tech, M.S, and Ph.D. The B.Tech program offers various branches such as Chemical Engineering, Ceramic Technology, Industrial Biotechnology, Leather Technology, Petroleum Engineering and Technology, Pharmaceutical Technology, Food Technology, Apparel Technology, and Textile Technology. For admission to the B.Tech program, candidates are required to participate in the single-window counseling process called Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions, conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Tamil Nadu.
Admission to the M.Tech program is based on scores obtained in TANCET/GATE exams, followed by participation in the TANCA counseling process.
