Established in 1985, A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS) is located in Mangalore. It holds accreditation with a grade ‘A’ from NAAC and is affiliated with Nitte Deemed to be University. Additionally, it is approved by the Dental Council of India, under the Government of India. ABSMIDS comprises 13 departments, including Oral Medicine and Radiology, Oral Pathology, and Oral Implantology, among others.
The institute offers a range of courses in Dental Sciences, including BDS, MDS, PhD, Certificate, and Fellowship programs. Admission to the BDS program at Shetty Dental College is based on the NEET UG examination, which is scheduled to be conducted on September 12. Notably, ABSMIDS has established international collaborations with Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany, and Cleft Children International Zurich, Switzerland, specifically for its Certificate courses.

Admissions
The A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences offers a sole undergraduate course known as BDS. To be eligible for admission, candidates must have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. Additionally, applicants should have attained the age of 17 by December 31st of the admission year. Furthermore, aspiring students seeking admission to the BDS program are required to qualify for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG), conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) generally in May each year. The NTA is responsible for conducting the entrance test, declaring results, and providing the All India Rank to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in New Delhi for counseling of 100% of seats in Deemed Universities. NEET-UG is open to Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), and Foreign Nationals. NEET qualification is a prerequisite for admission to BDS. Students are advised to carefully read the Information Bulletin and gather accurate details before submitting their application.
For the Postgraduate degree program, applicants must be permanently registered with any State Dental Council and hold a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from a recognized dental college. Additionally, candidates must have qualified in NEET-MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) as a requirement for admission. Admission to the program is based on merit.
Placements
The BDS course at A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences includes a mandatory internship program aimed at providing students with essential clinical training and community-based experience. This internship serves as a platform for students to gain exposure and prepares them for their future careers. The institute also organizes placement drives, creating opportunities for students to secure employment.
