Established in 1949 by Shri. C. Rajam, Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) became a part of Anna University in 1978. Accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), MIT Chennai holds a prominent position in the NIRF rankings. Recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and affiliated with Anna University, the college’s mission is to provide quality education and nurture professionals for the betterment of society.

MIT offers a wide range of courses in the fields of science, engineering, and technology. The college provides programs such as B.E, B.Tech, M.E, M.Tech, M.Sc., M.Phil, and Ph.D. All courses are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and admissions are based on the Madras Institute of Technology’s criteria. With a dedicated faculty comprising 117 well-qualified members, the college currently enrolls 3968 students, resulting in a student-teacher ratio of 34:1. The college has fostered collaborations with esteemed institutions both nationally and internationally, including Bristol University, Portsmouth University, National Institute of Material Science, Hiroshima University, Tamilnadu Police, and the Government of Tamilnadu.

Occupying a spacious campus spanning 51 acres, Madras Institute of Technology offers excellent facilities, including hostels for both boys and girls, a well-stocked library, sports amenities, IT infrastructure, an auditorium, a medical clinic, a cooperative store, a museum, and state-of-the-art laboratories. Admissions

Madras Institute of Technology offers admissions to a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, M.Phil, and Ph.D. programs. The available courses for admission at Madras Institute of Technology include B.E/B.Tech, B.E Part Time, M.E/M.Tech, M.E/M.Tech Part Time, M.Sc., and Ph.D. Prospective applicants must first ensure they meet the eligibility criteria before applying.

For admission to the B.E/B.Tech program, candidates need to register on the TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions) website. TNEA prepares a merit list and ranks based on the scores obtained in 10+2 examinations in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Qualified candidates then need to register for TNEA counseling, where seats will be allotted based on their preferences.

Candidates seeking admission to B.E Part Time, M.E/M.Tech Part Time, and M.Sc. Applied Mathematics programs are selected based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination.

The admission procedure for M.E/M.Tech programs requires candidates to appear for either TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test) or GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering). Merit lists and ranks are prepared after the declaration of the results, and candidates whose names appear on the rank list must participate in TANCA (Tamil Nadu Common Admissions) counseling. Seat allotment will be based on the ranks obtained.

The placement cell at MIT Chennai operates under the Center for University-Industry Collaboration (CUIC) at Anna University, which oversees the overall placement process.
