The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is an eminent institute located in Bangalore, established in 1909 through a collaborative effort between Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the Government of India, and the Maharaja of Mysore. IISc Bangalore comprises 45 departments under six divisions, including Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, EECS (Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Science), Interdisciplinary Sciences, Mechanical Sciences, and Physical and Mathematical Sciences. The institute has been ranked second in the overall NIRF 2021 ranking and first in the research and university categories. It held the top position in these categories in the NIRF 2020 ranking. IISc Bangalore is accredited by the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) with a grade of ‘A’ and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The campus covers 434 acres of land, and the institute has an enrollment of more than 3000 students. IISc Bangalore offers admission to various courses in Management and Business Administration, Sciences, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, Computer Application, and IT, among others. Students must take national-level entrance examinations to be considered for admission to IISc Bangalore’s various courses.
Admissions
The Indian Institute of Science Bangalore provides a variety of undergraduate courses for prospective students. These courses include B.Sc. Research in Biology, B.Sc. Research in Chemistry, B.Sc. Research in Earth and Environmental Science, B.Sc. in Material, and B.Sc. in Mathematics. Admission to these courses is granted based on the applicant’s performance in national level entrance exams such as KVPY, JEE Main, JEE Advanced, and NEET-UG.
Furthermore, the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore also offers numerous postgraduate courses, numbering 56 in total. These courses include M.Tech, M.Des Product Design and Engineering, among others. Admission to the M.Des Product Design and Engineering program is determined based on CEED/GATE scores, while admission to the M.Tech program is determined based on GATE scores. The Indian Institute of Science Bangalore’s Office of Career and Counselling and Placement organizes placement drives for final year students by inviting various companies. The process involves sending invitations and relevant information to recruiters. New recruiters can also contact OCCap directly via email. Recruiters must register on the OCCap website, while interested and eligible students must sign in to the OCCap portal for the recruitment process. This includes pre-placement talks, shortlisting of candidates based on their CVs, written tests, group discussions, and interviews, culminating in the final placements for IISc Bangalore.
To apply for jobs or internships during IISc Bangalore placements, students must share their personal information on the OCCaP pre-registration form or send an email to OCCaP. OCCap is an acronym for the Office of Career and Counselling and Placement. Direct sign-ups on the OCCap portal are not permitted; instead, students must fill out the pre-registration form. Those who have completed the pre-registration form will receive an email with sign-in credentials.
