Vidya Mitra

Established in 1968, CIPET (Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology), formerly known as CIPET (Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology), was founded in Chennai with the support of the Government of India and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The primary objective behind the establishment of this specialized institute was to bridge the gap in the availability of skilled professionals in various disciplines of Plastics Engineering & Technology, as no similar institution existed in the country at that time. The International Labour Organization (ILO) served as the executing agency for this initiative. During the initial period from 1968 to 1973, the institute successfully accomplished its set targets and was recognized as one of the most successful UNDP projects worldwide.

Admissions

CIPET Chennai offers a diverse range of 7 programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma levels. For admission to B.E Manufacturing Engineering and B.Tech Plastics Technology programs, candidates are required to register and participate in the state-level counselling process called Tamilnadu Engineering Admission (TNEA), conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu. Admission to M.Tech and M.E CAD CAM programs is determined by the candidates’ performance in the TANCET entrance exam. Shortlisted candidates must also attend TANCA counselling. As for the Diploma in Plastic Mould Technology, Diploma in Plastic Technology, Post Diploma in Plastic Mould Design, and PGD in Plastics Processing and Testing programs, admission is offered based on the candidates’ scores in the CIPET JEE.
